“That was a treat! Fun seeing your wonderful quirky characters and all the others. Loved the whimsical tone of the whole thing and loved the love story. Gives me a little hope that age is no barrier to love. Fun images and sound effects. Loved the soap commercials. An hour well spent. Hope you all had a ball.” — Dan M., Highland Falls, NY
“Well done!!! Stephen and I really enjoyed the performance, such a treat. Very amusing congratulations to all the cast. Thank you, we are tapping our feet now.” — Charis R., Dieppe, France
“I loved it! The characters were a hoot! I enjoyed the correct sound effects, and the ones that didn’t go well (as part of the show)! It was funny to see the actors interject their ‘real selves’ into the show, and the director who kept interrupting! The accents were hilarious!”
—Caroline P., Maryland

“That was very much fun! I had a smile on my face the whole time!” — Roberta J., NYC

Out of the Box Theatre Company presents THE 28 STAIRS: A RADIO PLAY PARODY by Lin Snider. Based on John Buchan’s book THE 39 STEPS.
The radio play follows Richard Hannay’s exploits through a film noir-like plot of wartime espionage. Hannay is at a theatre when a shot is fired. In the ensuing panic, he meets a frightened Annabella, who tells him that she is a spy being chased by assassins. She claims to have uncovered a plot to steal vital military secrets, called “The 28 Stairs.” He takes her to his home, where she is murdered. On a train to Scotland, where Anabella had said he should seek out “the Professor,” Hannay sees the police on his trail. In desperation, he enters a compartment with a sole occupant, Pamela. She, however, betrays him to the law. He jumps from the train and escapes. The fun continues as this frenetic farce careens from place to place. The conclusion combines mishaps, mistaken identities, and tongue-in-cheek references to everything we like about murder mysteries. Running time: 70 minutes. |
