About Miracle on 34th Street: A Live Radio Play
This beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast. Miracle on 34th Street: A Live Radio Play tells the timeless story of an old man who calls himself Kris Kringle and is hired as the Macy's department store Santa. His claim to be the real Santa Claus becomes a court case and a young child's belief could make all the difference. "Faith is believing when common sense tells you not to." Miracle on 34th Street was originally a 1947 American Christmas comedy-drama film written and directed by George Seaton and based on a story by Valentine Davies. It won three Academy Awards and was nominated for Best Picture, but lost to Gentleman's Agreement. There have been four remakes of the movie, several television and radio versions, a Broadway musical entitled HERE’S LOVE by Meredith Wilsom and even a puppet show at Macy’s as part of its Santaland holiday display. The version presented was originally aired on December 20, 1948 for the LUX Radio Theater and starred Maureen O’Hara, John Payne and Edmund Gwenn, all members of the original movie cast. In 2005, the original film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant". The Academy Film Archive preserved Miracle on 34th Street in 2009. Directed by Lin Snider. Musical Director: Woody Regan Cast Stephanie Byer* Mort's Mama/Judge Henrietta X. Harper J.D.
