About Harvey
The play’s conceit is described as follows on Wikipedia:
“Elwood P. Dowd is an affable man who claims to have an unseen (and presumably imaginary) friend Harvey—whom Elwood describes as a six-foot, three-and-one-half-inch tall pooka resembling an anthropomorphic rabbit. Elwood introduces Harvey to everyone he meets. His social-climbing sister, Veta, increasingly finds his eccentric behavior embarrassing. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium. When they arrive at the sanitarium, a comedy of errors ensues. The young Dr. Sanderson mistakenly commits Veta instead of Elwood, but when the truth comes out, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion.”

An ensemble of professional New York actors will be helmed by stage and screen veteran John Christopher Jones, returning to direct his third production with Out of the Box. His extensive acting resume includes a dozen Broadway turns. Mr. Jones has been directed by such luminaries as Mike Nichols and Harold Pinter; he also played the role of Sagot in the NYC premiere of Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile.  Mr. Jones has performed regularly with such off-Broadway mainstays as Classic Stage Company and Theatre for a New Audience, among others.  His many screen credits include the movies Awakenings, Moonstruck, and The Village.

During the 1990'S Mr. Jones forged a partnership with the Depot Theater in upstate New York, acting in five plays and directing fifteen. He has this to say about directing Harveynow:

“Out of the Box, in its mission statement, tries to use older actors, and I am grateful that in this case they chose an older director. Coincidentally, I played Elwood P. Dowd at the Depot Theatre. It’s nice to visit the play again as a director. My sister played Veta [Elwood’s sister]—a case of siblings playing siblings. The spine of the play in that production was the deep bond between Elwood and Veta. In casting this production, I learned a lot about the strength of this play—what a wonderful comedy this is!”
