All characters are over 50. They are all Jewish. However, we are looking for diversity in casting. Three women have major roles. One woman (Mildred) is a minor role in just one scene. Women
LUCILLE: Feisty. Likes to be the center of attention. A bit over the top. May dress a bit too young and racy for her age. Probably wears a bit too much make-up. Tries too hard to be liked and to be attractive to available men. A bit of a braggart about her social life, and sometimes too boisterous. Can be a buttinski, but she really does love her friends and underneath has a heart of gold.
IDA: Attractive-looking middle-aged woman. She is friendly, even tempered, and sweet without being overly saccharine. A real homemaker type, she is very likeable. Frank, open and honest, she is inviting without being overly aggressive. She is more ready to move on than her other widowed friends, considering opening a new chapter in her life and exploring new possibilities. She seems like a normal gal, in the best possible sense of the word. Very comfortable with herself.
DORIS: More reserved and conservative than either Ida or Lucille. She still misses her husband very much. She is not ready for a new relationship with a man and she may never be. She is a tad judgmental of her friends’ desires to move on. She has good manners and is well spoken. She is pleasant looking, perhaps better looking than either of her friends. Very feminine. More formal than her friends. The way she dresses reflects her reserved personality. She might be a bit more delicate looking than her two friends.
MILDRED: Almost plain looking middle-aged woman. Any ethnicity, but still Jewish. The aggressively clinging and possessive type. Hangs all over Sam. Not as attractive as Doris or Ida. A bit pushy, almost outré. Could be heavy set, but not necessarily. Makes a big deal of letting the others know she is Sam’s date. Pleased to share info about Sam the others do not know. Makes her feel important as if she has the inside track. A bit oblivious of Ida’s feelings. (Small role, appears in one scene only.)
Man
SAM: Very nice looking middle-aged widower. Just short of really handsome. Good manners and well spoken, he is a tad shy. A bit mild mannered, he lets himself be bullied out of a relationship with Ida by Doris and Lucille. Wants to do the right thing and isn’t quite sure what that is. He does seem ready to move on. A good catch for a partner a second time around. Probably under 6 feet tall, with a nice solid build, but not overweight. Grey or greying at the temples. Easy to like. A good guy. You want to root for him as he finds his way with this gaggle of women.
